Cross Border Youth Choir sing 'The Dead Soldier', filmed in the Irish War Memorial Gardens and Holy Child School, Killiney, Dublin

In 2018 our Youth Director, Lynsey Callaghan, was delighted to have the Cross Border Youth Choir invited to participate in the première of Patrick Hawes’ Great War Symphony. Satellite choirs from across the UK and Ireland were recorded to be played in to the première at the Royal Albert Hall in October 2018.

The Cross Border Youth Choir is made up of members of Belfast Philharmonic Chamber Choir and Dublin Youth Chamber Choir.  The choirs rehearsed individually before the recording and devoted time to learning the piece at home.  The Belfast members then travelled to Dublin for a joint rehearsal before recording their piece with Lynsey Callaghan conducting.  During the première on 9th October, the Cross Border Youth Choir’s performance was broadcast in alongside the other satellite choirs, live orchestra and performers at the Royal Albert Hall.  The concert was broadcast on Classic FM on 10th October. Lynsey travelled to hear the performance at the Royal Albert Hall and said that she was “so proud that our youth choir performed alongside the most reputable youth choirs from the UK and represented Northern Ireland and Ireland.”

The Cross Border Youth Choir will be performing on Saturday 27th October 2018 at 7.30pm in Methodist College Belfast’s Chapel of Unity, before heading to compete in the City of Derry International Choir Festival on Sunday.  The concert on Saturday is open to everyone -

entry is free with a retiring collection in aid of Cross Border Youth Choir Projects.
